Every photoshoot here in Iceland is its own little adventure. The weather, the light, and the energy of this land have a mind of their own, but that’s exactly what makes it all so special.
I want you to come into your session with an open heart, ready to experience whatever the day brings - the wind in your hair, the mist on your skin, the laughter. Don’t worry about perfection; the most beautiful images always come from the real, in-between moments.
Here are a few things to keep in mind as you get ready - small tips to help you stay warm, comfortable, and fully present. Most of all, I want you to feel relaxed, connected, and free to just be yourselves. The more you trust the process and enjoy the moment, the more honest and magical your photos will be.
1. Embrace the weather - it’s part of the story.
Iceland’s weather changes quickly - sunshine, rain, mist, and wind can all happen within an hour. Don’t worry; that’s what makes your photos so special. Bring layers, stay flexible, and remember: sometimes the wildest weather brings the most magical results.
2. Plan for travel time between locations.
Distances in Iceland can be deceiving! Even short drives may take longer because of gravel roads or photo stops along the way. Always leave extra time to enjoy the scenery and avoid rushing - your day should feel calm and unhurried.
3. Keep your outfits practical and timeless.
Natural colors and comfortable clothes always photograph best. Think warm sweaters, layers, and good shoes (yes, even with your wedding dress!). Avoid bright logos or heavy patterns - simplicity blends beautifully with Iceland’s landscapes.
4. Bring snacks and warm drinks.
A thermos of coffee or hot chocolate and some snacks can make all the difference during a windy or rainy shoot. It keeps you comfortable, happy, and adds cozy moments for candid photos too!
5. Be mindful of nature.
Iceland’s landscapes are fragile. Stay on marked paths, respect private land, and never step on moss - it takes decades to grow back. Leave no trace, so the next travellers can enjoy the same magic.
6. Timing is everything.
Early morning or late evening gives the softest light and the quietest locations. In summer, the midnight sun creates an endless golden glow, and in winter, shorter days mean dramatic low light - both are perfect for photography.
7. Have a “this is Iceland” mindset.
Things might not go exactly as planned - and that’s okay. A bit of wind, a sudden shower, or a detour often leads to the most genuine and unforgettable moments. Like we say here: þetta reddast - everything will work out just fine.
At the end of the day, it’s not about posing perfectly or waiting for flawless weather - it’s about you and the story we’re creating together.
So breathe, let go, and just enjoy it. Trust that everything will fall into place - because it always does here in Iceland. However the day unfolds, I promise we’ll create something beautiful and true, something that feels like you.
