Your photographer in Iceland
Hæ! I’m Petra Marita, a photographer and visual artist born in 1989. My roots are in Finland, but since August 2019, Iceland has been my home - a country that feels like it was made for creating, dreaming, and photographing. There’s a magic here in the landscapes, the light, and even the little moments of everyday life that inspires me every single day.
I’ve always followed my intuition and pursued my dreams, and that’s what brought me to Iceland. Photography has been my language for telling stories since I studied at the Institute of Design at Lahti University of Applied Sciences.
Since 2013, I’ve been running my own creative business, working with clients ranging from some of Finland’s biggest companies and advertising agencies to couples and families wanting to capture life’s most meaningful moments.
My work is all about emotion, connection, and atmosphere. I love natural light, soft colours, and creating photographs that feel timeless, strong, and alive. Every session or wedding is a chance to tell a story - whether it’s the quiet intimacy of a couple’s elopement, a family laughing together, or the vibrancy of Iceland’s dramatic landscapes.
While most of my work is here in Iceland, I’m always open to creative projects anywhere in the world. My goal is simple: to create photographs that make you feel, remember, and fall in love with your moments all over again.
When I’m not behind the camera, my world is full of the things I love most. My dog, Olga, a spirited white poodle, is my constant companion — we spend hours hiking in Icelandic nature and exploring quiet corners of the neighborhood. I’m also a lifelong horse lover, and time at the stables is where I find calm, inspiration, and joy.
I have a deep love for nature, whether it’s through my walks with Olga, caring for my growing houseplant collection, or enjoying the serenity of Iceland’s landscapes. I’m also passionate about interior design, finding beauty in everyday spaces and details. These passions feed into my photography, helping me see the world with curiosity, creativity, and heart.

I studied photography at the Institute of Design at Lahti University of Applied Sciences in Finland. It gave me a solid foundation in both technical skills and creative expression, which I’ve built on ever since.
-
The combination of natural beauty and raw emotion. Whether it’s a waterfall, black sand beach, or mossy hills, the landscapes add a magical layer to the story I’m capturing. I also love the connection I get to create with people — helping them feel comfortable and free in front of the camera.
-
Classic, timeless, and strong, with a lot of color, soft natural light, and a focus on genuine emotion. My photos are designed to stand the test of time and make you feel something every time you look at them.
-
I aim to be more than a photographer - I want to be a friend and guide. I make sessions relaxed, fun, and natural, so people feel comfortable being themselves. The result is real, honest, and joyful images.
-
Absolutely! I love collaborating and bringing creative visions to life -whether it’s a portrait session, a family shoot, or a unique photographic project.
-
Meeting people from all over the world and being part of their great adventures and special moments. Seeing the joy and happiness people experience here in Iceland is truly magical — it’s what makes every shoot special.

People, in all their forms. Portraits are my passion — capturing personalities, emotions, and connections is what I love most.

My life revolves around my dog, Olga, my white poodle and constant companion. We love hiking in nature and long walks around the neighborhood. I’m also a lifelong horse girl and spend time at the stables, and I have a huge houseplant collection and a love for interior design.

Surprisingly, harsh summer sunshine can be tricky - it creates strong shadows and can wash out the magical atmosphere. On the other hand, some of my best photos have been taken in heavy rain! Iceland is unpredictable, and that’s part of the magic.

Nothing beats the midnight sun during a summer night in Iceland. It never gets dark, everything feels magical, and the big tourist crowds are asleep, so you often have the sites to yourself.

Keep an open mind and be flexible — Iceland can change in an instant. Our motto here is “þetta reddast”, which roughly translates to “everything will be ok.” No matter what the weather or conditions, with the right attitude everything will turn out beautifully.
